The American Peace Initiative in the Middle East

March 8, 12:30pm - 2:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Sakamaki Hall A201

Please join the History Forum for Dr. Jason Olson's discussion of "The American Peace Initiative: The Abraham Accords and U.S. National Security Strategy" Dr. Olson, a U.S. Navy foreign area officer at Pacific Fleet, will discuss the core interests of the United States in Arab-Israeli regional integration and peacemaking, particularly in this time of unprecedented violence and instability. He will also present his initiative to create the Middle East Integration Digital Archive (MEIDA) to gather the primary sources of Arab-Israeli integration and normalization, from 1967-present. Indeed, the three axioms of the Khartoum Resolution: no peace with Israel, no negotiations with Israel, and no recognition of Israel — have been gradually repealed by moderate Arab states. Dr. Olson, using a blend of diplomacy and scholarship, intends to tell the Arab side of the story — the how and why of making peace with Israel and the Jewish people. Please note that Dr. Olson’s views are his own and do not necessarily represent the Department of Defense. The talk is free and open to the public.
